26/6/15 - Science day and more

This week we have been doing lots of science. On Monday we had science day where we made water rockets and balloon buggies. We all worked hard, learned lots and most importantly had fun! On Wednesday Year 5 went to Stanway and carried out lots an investigation into the pH of various household substances. Mr Wainwright has put some photos of both days here.

In class we have been learning about time and and performing poetry using our voices, faces and bodies. We have produced fantastic work in both subjects! We have also been learning about evolution in science and investigating ratio to see how close modern animals measurements are to their extinct relatives.

Class 4 want to offer WP a huge congratulations for earning his handwriting pen this week we all know how hard he has been working to get it! Comment below on ways to help us to improve our presentation!

Epic Citadel

This week we will be using the 'Epic Citadel' app to help us with our writing,

As a class we came up with this:

'As I walked through the transparent water I could feel the water’s natural flow. A lonesome lily floated gracefully downstream. Fish darted through my legs. Darkness surrounded me, There was no sound except the sound of my own breath. As I took my first steps onto land in front of the intimidating castle I was forced to the ground. I was taken to a cell, the room looked almost insignificant with a solitary statue reminding people that visited what this room was for.'

I'm also adding some photographs of you all working from today's lesson at the bottom of the blog as well as the word cloud we came up with.. Below you need to leave a comment with the sentence that you are most proud of from today's work.

Zoo with photos!

Today has been a fantastic day for class 4 at Colchester Zoo. We missed the rain by seconds and had beautiful weather all day! The Children were brilliantly behaved and did the school proud, we even had people stopping our adults to tell us how impressed they were with the children's behaviour and manners! Well done Class 4!

I would also like to thank our parent helpers from today, you were amazing!

This week we have looked at Addition and subtraction in maths, we will carry on with solving similar problems next week but with a more direct application. We also had a 'Giant Maths' lesson yesterday, looking at how the measurements of different limbs etc. compared, looking for links we could make. We then (using maths from the BFG) calculated how the measurements would be different if we were giants.

We have started our work on adventure stories and will continue with this over the next few weeks. Next week we will be using the iPads to help us get ideas for our writing.

Homework for this week is to complete our worksheets from the zoo.
