Sewing and Survival!

The summer term is nearing the end but that has not stopped the creativity in Class 4. With so much happening for the Year 6s recently, it has given some really nice time for the Year 5s to come together as a year group.  We spent time developing our sewing skills and I have seen SO much progress throughout the week.  We began by designing our cross stitch then we began...even threading the needle proved a challenge for some.  I am so impressed by the progress though that everyone has made and the absolute resilience they showed during the time too.  We were lucky to be joined by our Oaks who gave us a few extra pairs of hands to help untangle the knots on Tuesday morning!

Whilst the Year 5s have been busy, the Year 4s have been too been completing their survival projects.  We have used clips form the BBC Human Planet series to develop our understanding about how people have to adapt to harsh climates and extreme environments around the globe in order to survive.  They then had to use their knowledge and notes to create a book creator project about survival in the Arctic, Deserts and the Mountains. They shot videos, used green screen to act key survival techniques, created PicCollages, added sound effects and experimented with different fonts and layouts too. The finished projects are so brilliant and full of so much great work that they are unfortunately too big to add on the blog!  I will make them available though at learning conferences for children to share these with you.

I am looking forward to celebrating all the achievements children have made throughout Class 4 with you on Thursday and Friday.

Talent Galore!

It has continued to be a busy couple of weeks in class 4, with so many opportunities for children to show their skills and talents in different areas of the curriculum which has been a real pleasure.

Musical Evening
I was so proud of everybody who performed in our school musical evening, with children ranging from Year 2 all the way up to Year 6.  A special well done to all class 4 members who performed: Kirsty, Ellie, Daniel and Conrad on the piano, Conrad and Elliana on the guitar and all the choir members too - what a fabulous performance you gave!

Consortium Sports Day
Well done to all the children who participated, but particularly to Louis, Lily and Ellie from Class 4.  Please see the gallery for pictures.

Maths Morning
We got into our house teams for a great maths session this week.  I was lucky enough to work with blue house and it was so lovely to see all the older children supporting the younger members of their team with their work and their maths skills.

Porridge
The rehearsals for our end of year production have really come together this week, it has been incredible to see the acting talent from our Year 5 and 6 children, the singing talent across the entire Key Stage, the talented dancers we have in Year 3 and 4 and also the talented artists (both children and adults) that have created the most fabulous set.  You really are in for a treat next week!

And how better than to end the week with our first Multi School Talent Show tonight. From Class 4, we have our extremely talented gymnast, Juliette, as one of our acts performing in the Talent Show alongside other acts from a number of different schools around Colchester.  Good Luck Juliette - we know you will be brilliant!

I hope you all have a restful weekend and we will all keep our fingers crossed for a little bit of summer sunshine to appear.
