News Broadcasts about The Olympics

We had great fun this morning in Class 4 using our green screen app and DV Prompter.  The children used DV prompter to create their own autocues for their news report so they were looking at the camera better.  They then selected a background image for each report and used the green screen to be transported to their location.
Here are some photos of us at work and hopefully a video of the finished films too.  To view the videos you will have to view the blog through Google Chrome.  I am really proud of their confidence in front of camera and their computing skills too.  Mr. Wainwright

The Musical and Artistic Talents of Class 4

There are clearly no end to the talents of children in class 4, as we have seen through their learning over the past week in different subjects.

Music
There was great excitement as we all got our hands on the keyboards, some of us for the first time! It was very noisy at first as we discovered the different buttons, sounds and demo tunes the keyboard could play!  We then moved on to learn how to play along with the song we have been learning, Don't Stop Believin'.

Science
We applied our knowledge of circuits to use a motor within a simple circuit.  We used this circuit to make spinning toys.

Art
We used clay to make our Greek pots, it took a lot of patience to smooth out all the cracks and lumps!

We have painted the base coat for our pots and are now starting to carefully paint on the detailed patterns.  We are looking forward to sharing the finished results with you in the end of term school museum.

Year Five - Science - Water Resistance

We dropped a paper clip into a cup of air, water, oil and syrup to see which paper clip reached the bottom first.

We designed and made paper boats and predicted how many paper clips each would hold.

Feeling The Force in Year 5

Just a quick update on what year 5 have been learning about in Science this half term.
It is all about forces ...

Grace and Eva using a Forcemeter.

Investigating friction
Balloon Rockets - How far will they travel on different types of string.

Max is really thinking about this!

We measured how far the cars traveled on different surfaces.

Artists and Mathematicians in Class 4!

It has been another excellent week in Class 4 and everyone has worked so hard.  In maths, we have been developing our calculation skills, both for mental and written methods.  To help us with our written methods, we played lots of games to help us become more familiar with exchanging.  These were enjoyed and it soon became a little competition, with children exchanging hundreds and thousands before they knew it! Any practise at home to support mental addition and subtraction would be beneficial and active learn games will be updated to support this learning too.

Over the past couple of weeks in our theme sessions, we have been looking carefully at Greek architecture and patterns which has helped children to create some absolutely stunning art work.  The pieces of art produced have all been of such high standard, with such attention to detail and careful shading.  I wish I could share them all but here are just a few examples.

We are looking forward to our Harvest celebrations at the church on Monday.  Have a lovely weekend.
