Easter week fun!

Well what a great end to a fabulous term.  Here are a few photos to show you what Class 4 have been up to this week.

Making hot cross buns
There was a delicious smell in Class 4 as they made hot cross buns with Mrs Allen.  I didn't get to try one but have heard from many children and parents that they were delicious!

Aztec Printing
Class 4 have really enjoyed developing thier printing skills and have produced some beautiful Aztec pattern prints this week.  The 'oohs' and 'aahs' of amazement from the children when the prints were revealed was a delight to hear and see.

Finally to end our term we felt it only right to celebrate the Mexican way, with our Pinata.  There was great excitement to see who could hit it the hardest and manage to break it to reveal the contents.  It was full of our questions from the beginning of our topic (which now we could answer!) but also a little Easter treat too which pleased them.

Finally,  I would like to thank you all for your ongoing support throughout the term and wish you all a very restful and happy Easter.

Mexico Presentations

I could not have been prouder of everyone in Class 4 on Tuesday!  After a term learning about Mexico and a couple of weeks to work as a team and prepare a presentation, the day arrived and costumes, food and props came flooding in to school!  (Thank you to all the parents and family members that helped with this at home!)  The independence children took over the preparations was incredible to watch and I genuinely had no input until I watched them for the very first time on Monday evening.  Even then there was little I could do or say to better their presentations, only suggest a few helpful tips here and there!

The judging panel consisted of Mr Wainwright, Mr Lawrence, a bank manager from Colchester, and Mr Vidler, a teacher.  It is fair to say they were treated to a wonderful afternoon of dancing, music, art and nachos!  I was not envious of their job because each group showcased not only a wealth of learning about Mexico but a great team spirit too!  They were scoring the children across 4 categories: knowledge and understanding of Mexico, variety of subjects covered, delivery of the presentations and teamwork.

The Green Team

The Red Team

The Yellow Team

The Blue Team

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post and I told the children on numerous occasions, I was so proud of all the class for showing our school values in abundance.  However, I must give a special mention to the Blue Team who were awarded a special achievement for team work throughout this process.
And my final special mention must go to the Red Team who were awarded the certificate for the winning presentation, scoring the most amount of points from our judging panel.

Well done Class 4 - we are almost ready to start a brand new topic (with a holiday first!!)  Some Aztec printing to come next week will complete our Mexico theme, which I must admit has been a pleasure and I have thoroughly enjoyed too!

Colchester Synagogue and Church Visit

Year 4, 5 and 6 have all had a lovely morning out visiting two different places of worship.  We were welcomed so warmly by Linda at the Colchester Synagogue and Reverend Aella at St Botolph's Church.  It was fascinating listening to both teaching us about their religion and places of worship.  Here are just some of the photos to share with you.

Having a go at playing the organ!

Learning the Alphabet in Hebrew

Trying to get a note from the shofar.
Preparing for the Sabbath

Trying a Jewish snack, apples dipped in honey.

And finally someone managed to get a note...!

A really lovely morning out and so much learnt too.  Well done Class 4 and 5!
