Structural engineers in the making...

This week has seen a great deal of team work and perseverance through reasoning activities and maths.  We have been learning how to measure accurately, read scales and most importantly convert between different units of measure.

Team work was put to the test on Wednesday when the class were challenged to build the tallest and strongest tower out of just newspaper and masking tape. Each group showed excellent communication skills, determination and perseverance.

A special ‘Well Done’ has to go to Phoebe, Conrad, Callum and Josh for the tallest and strongest free standing tower which was just excellent, very well modelled on the Burj Khalifa in Dubai

I have been astounded once again by the writing skills of Class 4 this week.  You are in for a treat when you come to Learning Conferences next week as their imagination, creativity and range of language features just continues to grow and grow.  We have been using a picture story book, set in Mexico, to help us with our writing.  We used nearpod, an online program, to help us look at the pictures and write responses to questions about character’s feelings at different points in the story.  Whilst I am proud of every single child, a special 'Well done' must go to our wonderful writers this week: Lily, Phoebe, Joshua P, Saxen and Emily Co.

We are all getting excited and prepared for World Book Day on Thursday and look forward to sharing the day with you, purely celebrating the joy of books, which links to this weeks home learning task.  Page numbers for the maths and English homework tasks are:
Year 4 Maths: Measures units (pg 42/43 ) English: conjunctions (pg 22/23 )
Year 5 Maths: Metric Units     (pg 44/45)  English: conjunctions (pg 22/23)

Wishing you all a happy weekend,
Mrs McMillan

  1. I thought that making the towers was a challenge and to get them to balance was harder than I thought.
