The theme for our day was set using the book 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.' We started our morning with 'Down the Rabbit-Hole' using the 'Drink Me' and 'Eat Me' part of the story for our first activities. Children designed their own 'Drink Me' potions, thinking about what it would taste like and what would happen to Alice - we had a variety of ideas as you can imagine! Food colouring and glitter helped make these look amazing. Children also designed their own 'Eat Me' cakes, thinking again about what would happen to Alice if she ate it.
We then continued reading and found out about the characters Alice met along her journey: the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat and others. We had a range of different maths challenges involving these characters which involved our maths skills for symmetry, time and number puzzles.
During the afternoon, with Year 4, we focused on Chapter VII, 'A Mad Tea-Party',with a little part of Chapter XI, 'Who Stole the Tarts?' thrown in too. Children had a range of activities from preparing food for the mad tea party (making edible tea cups, making jam tarts and decorating biscuits) and other activities related to the book too. I know Year 5 were enjoying linking their learning of life cycles in Science to a book by making large board games. It was lovely to share these activities with all our visitors and we hope parents, grandparents and little brothers that came enjoyed sharing our learning and celebrating World Book Day with us.
After a great day it is back to normal tomorrow class 4...
